Old Family Grave Stone Found

Elizabeth, the daughter of Warren and Mary Onan in the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany, Cattaraugus County NY.

The pictures show the grave stone of Elizabeth C. Onan who died Feb, 10, 1862, age 18 yrs., and Joie Wilson of Franklinville, NY; who has been a helpful researcher and active e-mail correspondent.

 

Elizabeth has been known about for some time, but the place of her burial has eluded me until now. When Jane and I visited Allegany NY  this summer it occurred to me that there may be graves in the Allegany Cemetery. Particularly I was looking for Adilia; who is recorded in one census as one month old, but never again. I wrote Mary Frances Potter of the Allegany Historical Society to see if she could check cemetery records for Adilia. Nothing for Adilia was found, but Elizabeth was. Joie and her husband Charlie Wilson were nice enough to photograph the stone and transcribe the inscription.
